December 2020: What’s new & what I have been upto

    December 3, 2020 / No Comments

Well first of all I had had plans for November 2020. I had planned to sit and relax and write more of the book – about 30,000 words extra to be exact. That worked for about a week. I am also involved in various projects in a voluntary capacity where I try to provide some assistance somehow. One of these ended up having a lot of drama and that caused a lot of stress. So I didn’t get to actually have much stress free time to write or do much else. So what else happened in November? I was in a Melbourne Fringe show. Yes you read that right. I…

You might be wondering why you should care. It affects you immensely. Do you rely on the ABC for your news? A lot of what the ABC can cover in the regions depends on smaller local and rural newspapers existing there to help cover the same stories in print. ABC journos often have a large area to cover in the regions – they can’t do it alone. Do you rely on your local council for anything?…

Despite COVID-19 I am still here

    May 26, 2020 / No Comments

Back when I first started this blog, it was moved over from a personal one I had elsewhere pre the days of Google. The CMS that that blog was hosted on allowed for a lot more embedded interaction. You could easily find other bloggers and chat to them. You didn’t need to keep a schedule but someone would probably check in on you if you were quiet for too long. I never quite got into the next phase of things: where blogs were suddenly something you had to do and that you had to do on a schedule. I tried but it wasn’t what I had become used to –…

How do you tell a story?

    February 9, 2019 / No Comments

Where does one begin? If you didn’t know by now, I am speaking at an event on Monday night in Melbourne. I and four other journalists have five minutes each to tell a story about our journalism careers. And I am a bit stuck. I am assuming that I am stuck because of a few things: When I do think of funny anecdotes, they are not long enough to drag out for five minutes. At least I don’t think so at this point..
