December 2020: What’s new & what I have been upto
Well first of all I had had plans for November 2020. I had planned to sit and relax and write more of the book – about 30,000 words extra to be exact. That worked for about a week. I am also involved in various projects in a voluntary capacity where I try to provide some assistance somehow. One of these ended up having a lot of drama and that caused a lot of stress. So I didn’t get to actually have much stress free time to write or do much else. So what else happened in November? I was in a Melbourne Fringe show. Yes you read that right. I…

An update on Gin & Tonic
For those of you who are new and who may not be aware, I am writing a crime novel. This should not really surprise anyone. I love reading crime fiction. But I started writing this story last year. And I was lucky enough to smash out some huge chunks of words during my KSP and Varuna writing fellowship stays. I am hoping the book ends up being this madcap dash through Colombo tropical city humidity and heat with two teenage girls puzzling their way through crimes and the cops chasing behind them, missing jewellery, murder, mayhem and secret bars and annoying aunties and all. Why I am resurrecting my Patreon account
Some of you may have already known this via social media or the mailing list. I have restarted my Patreon account. For $1 per month you can read the draft of my crime fiction book Gin & Tonic as I write it, start to finish, with two posts per month. The first one went live yesterday and they are scheduled up until mid July with more to come because I have a ton of pages of scribble to type up. For some of you, this is not your thing at all. You want to know what I do via the blog or the newsletter but you are not really otherwise…

I won the inaugural KSP – Varuna Foundation Fellowship
What is a writing foundation fellowship? In A Room of One’s Own Virginia Woolf argues and advocates for women to have a room of their own to write in where they are free from all the other duties and responsibilities one has to undertake in the business of living or running a house or working and so on. Male writers in the past have often benefitted from having a spouse who could keep everything going while they had the free time and space to write. Writing fellowships vary in what is involved or offered but this idea of having time to write free from other concerns underpins the KSP-Varuna Foundation Fellowship…

Marianne Delacourt’s Sharp Shooter
I think often about what it means to stand in a spot in one place and to take it all in. To live in a place long enough to be someone who understands how life works its way through that spot’s particular urban or rural landscape. And how it feels like saying hello to an old friend when you pick up a book to find yourself in a place that is both that place you know and also perhaps for the sake of the work, not quite that place either. But that’s just the start of what surprises you about the Tara Sharp series by Marianne Delacourt, pseudonym of Marianne…
