Introduction The MEAA (Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance) is the union for journalists and writers and I thought I should start doing this monthly so that whether you are a member or not, you were aware of what the union is trying to do to help journalism and journalists. IPEd 2017: Workshops, whirlwinds and welcome
Today is sort of the first day of the IPEd 2017 conference. Sort of but not quite. There are lots of things that have evolved into traditions over the years with this conference. One of them is the running of workshops the day before the conference actually starts. So today there were workshops on marketing and freelancing and technical aspects of editing. From all accounts they were wonderful – unfortunately I didn’t get to attend any this time around. But I needed that time. I had landed in Brisbane sans business cards. The Writing Calendar: June 2016
I decided to put this calendar for the month of June together on a whim. And then it took forever. So this is the monster list of everything even remotely writerly and literary that is going on in Perth and WA in the month of June from today onwards. The Rockstar Freelance Lifestyle

Thoughts on teaching
For the past few weeks I have been working as a tutor to the first year Journalism students at Murdoch University here in Perth. For the elucidation of those based in other countries, students go to a lecture here given by the lecturer on the theory of a subject and then break off into smaller groups of around twenty to attend tutorials or workshops where they learn the details of the theory or the practical versions of the subject via exercises and assignments. Tutorials and workshops are run by the tutors.
