If you came here via the MEAA e-bulletin link, you have come to the right place. If you are a freelance journalist working for Australian publications, we would like to hear from you. We want to know how much you are being paid at each publication as a freelancer, how often and everything else related to it. And we don’t know want any identifying information about yourself – it is totally anonymous. You can submit data as often as you like about as many publications as you wish to so we can track if there is bias present in how freelancers are paid and if indeed they are paid well.…

MEAA now able to negotiate on behalf of freelancers
Here’s yet another reason to join the union (Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance). Christopher Warren’s newsletter to all MEAA members this morning stated that: Freelance journalists will be able to turn to their union for representation after the ACCC issued a draft determination proposing to grant authorisation to the Media Alliance to negotiate on their behalf. This is a significant change for freelancers, who have been under pressure from by some publishers to sign unfavourable contracts. The Alliance will seek to negotiate on behalf of our freelance members with News Ltd, Fairfax, ACP Magazines and Pacific Magazines. What this means is that the union can now negotiate with these companies…
